Special Assistance

Air Tahiti Nui offers special assistance to passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. In order for us to best meet your needs for special assistance, please make your request when you book your ticket, and at least 48 hours before your departure.

Pregnant Women

Air Tahiti Nui accepts pregnant women without restrictions until the 6th month of pregnancy.
From the 30th to 35th week of pregnancy, a medical certificate issued within 7 days before the travel date is mandatory.
Beyond the 35th week of pregnancy, a pregnant woman cannot be accepted on board.

Corpulent Passenger

For safety reasons, all passengers must be properly seated and fastened during the flight. The purchase of an extra seat is NOT mandatory for corpulent passengers but gives guarantee to travel on the desired date. If the passenger decides not to buy an extra seat, acceptance is subject to availability on board the day of operation of the flight.

Wheelchair or Personal Mobility Device

Air Tahiti Nui authorizes the transportation of wheelchair or personal mobility device (manual or electric*) at no extra cost. There is no size or weight limit; however, it is possible that certain airports lack the necessary means for boarding or exiting the aircraft.

*Air Tahiti Nui transports 2 types of wheelchairs:

Manual wheelchair
In most airports, you can keep your wheelchair up to the aircraft opening or boarding gate if access to the aircraft is not direct via a walkway. In other cases, your manual wheelchair will be delivered to you as soon as you exit the aircraft or enter the terminal.
At time of reservation, please specify the type of wheelchair, its dimensions, its weight, as well as whether it is foldable. This will help us prepare for its transport in the best possible conditions.

Electric
Regardless of the kind of electric wheelchair, as a general rule, you must check it in as baggage. Your electric wheelchair will be returned to you at baggage delivery.
For this reason, we recommend that you also request wheelchair assistance at time of booking if necessary.
At time of reservation, please specify its dimensions and weight, as well as the battery type.  If you do not provide this information, transportation may be declined if your wheelchair´s battery type does not allow for safe transport.

Assistance wheelchairs
Air Tahiti Nui offers assistance wheelchairs to take you from check-in counter to the aircraft, and then from the aircraft to the airport exit. Please request your assistance wheelchair at time of booking.

Onboard wheelchairs
Air Tahiti Nui provides an onboard wheelchair that is designed to circulate in aircraft aisles and access the restrooms during the flight.

Traveling with a Companion

Air Tahiti Nui may require the presence of a travel companion for the safety of disabled or reduced-mobility passengers. His or her role is to assist in case of an emergency, particularly in the case of aircraft evacuation. A travel companion is required only in the following cases:

  • If the passenger has a severe mental disability that prevents him or her from understanding and applying safety instructions.
  • If the passenger is both blind and deaf, thereby preventing the possibility of communication with the crew.
  • If the passenger has a motor-based disability that physically prevents him or her from participating in an evacuation.

Most paraplegics and people with paralysis or who are missing both arms can therefore travel without a travel companion. However, a travel companion is mandatory for most quadriplegics.

The travel companion must meet the following requirements:

  • Be over the age of 18 and autonomous
  • Not taking care of a disabled or reduced-mobility passenger while also taking care of a child under the age of 5 or another disabled or reduced-mobility passenger

Syringes Disposal

All Air Tahiti Nui aircraft carry sharps containers for safe disposal of syringes and needles.
Please speak with your cabin crew member.
Used medical equipment must not be placed into seat pockets or anywhere as this is dangerous for other people.

Personal Medication Onboard

If your medication is required to be kept chilled, seek advice from your pharmacist. You will need to provide a suitable container with the cooling agent (ice or dry ice) inside. Our staff cannot take care of medication or store it in aircraft refrigerators.
Please note Dangerous Goods regulations state that dry ice containers cannot contain more than 2kg of dry ice and must not be sealed. A small vent is required to allow the carbon dioxide gas to escape.

Traveling with children

Infant

The fare for infants under two years old is 10 percent of the applicable available fare at the time of booking. The infant  will not be assigned a seat. He/she will travel seated on the lap of the parent.

For more comfort, bassinets may be available upon request, but are not guaranteed until your check-in, as the number of bassinets in is limited. Bassinets are for babies/infants weighing less than 30 lbs or 14 kg.

If you want a guaranteed seat,for your infant, you will need to purchase a child fare ticket and a regulation-sized car seat is mandatory.

An adult can travel with 2 infants maximum. At least one of the infants MUST occupy a purchased individual seat in an approved car seat*. A 23-month-old baby who turns  2 years old during the journey will need to purchase a child fare; the applicable fare will be the Child fare for the entire journey.  In this case, the  infant will benefit from the same standard baggage allowance as an adult.

Air Tahiti Nui offers  a baby kit (containing a bib, wipes, baby powder, a rattle, etc…) and a special meal adapted to your baby’s needs. Please consult our special meals’menu and make your request at least 48 hours prior to departure.

* If a seat has been booked and a child fare paid,  for your baby/infant, an approved car seat must be installed by the passenger.

The requirements are :

  • It is an approved car seat
  • it does not exceed 17,7 inches (45 cm) in Economy Moana and 20 inches (51 cm) in Poerava Business
  • you take care of the installation of the seat on board as indicated by the manufacturer’s instructions (front facing car seat),

Accompanying Children

Every child from 2 to 11 years old, must be accompanied by an adult passenger over the age of 18, except if this passenger is the child’s father/mother or legal guardian.

The adult must travel in the same cabin as the child. Otherwise the child is considered as traveling alone and will be deemed to be an unaccompanied minor. There will be conditions to be met in respect to unaccompanied minors travelling alone.

Air Tahiti Nui offers to all children colouring books and toys during the flight, and a program of child appropriate cartoons and video games.

You can also request a child meal during your reservation or at the latest 48 hours before the day of your departure.

Unaccompanied Children

Air Tahiti Nui welcomes children traveling alone.

For the security and comfort of your children we created our « TIARE KIDS » service. Air Tahiti Nui provides this service for children between 5 to 14 years old travelling alone or in a different class from that of the parents.

Conditions of eligibility:

Our « TIARE KIDS » service is available only on flights operated by Air Tahiti Nui. It is not available on flights operated by other airlines or in connexion with another airline nor on codeshare flights. This service is compulsory for children travelling alone from 5 to 11 years old, and optional for children from 11 to 14 years old.

If your child travels on the same flight as you but in a different cabin, he/she is considered as an unaccompanied minor and must remain under his or her Air Tahiti Nui guardian’s supervision and under the responsibility of the crew during the flight.

 

Reservation:

You can book this service on all routes operated by Air Tahiti Nui.The purchase of this service is available in all our agencies only. At the time of reservation, please inform us when your child needs to travel alone or on your same flight but in a different class.

Before your departure, we advise travellers to verify the entry and travel requirements for your destination and transit country/countries by contacting the proper embassies or consulates. It is the traveller’s responsibility to be  informed about legal requirements, (laws, regulations, decisions, requirements and measures) of the cities of departure, destination and transit.

 

At the airport of departure:

On the  day of the departure, we recommend you present your child at the check-in counter 3 hours before flight departure. Once checked-in, a « Tiare Kids » personal pocket containing documents necessary for his/her journey will be given to the unaccompanied minor. The check-in agent will then provide a meeting time and place from which our staff will greet and escort your child to the aircraft.

Please ensure  that your child is in possession of all necessary documents : e-ticket, valid passport, the signed authorization form to travel (known as « AST »), immigration form(s), visa, the signed « Tiare kids » form, as well as the copy of the ID card of your child legal guardian.

Note : At  departure, the parent/guardian will need to remain in the airport until 30 minutes after the aircraft departs.

On board:

Aboard our aircraft, Air Tahiti Nui staff will ensure your child is safe and assisted at all times during the flight.

Onboard your child will be able to enjoy films, cartoons, games, radio programs for children. To assure their safety, seats are specially assigned onboard for unaccompanied minors so they can be supervised during the flight.

When a child travels on the same flight as the adult parent/guardian, the child will be the responsibility of the crew until arrival.  The parent/guardian can visit their child at his/her seat but the child will not be able to visit the parent/guardian in business class.

In transit:

During the stopover in Los Angeles while transiting  for Paris, our staff  will provide continuous supervision to the unaccompanied minor. The same will apply when a parent is travelling in business class.

At the airport of arrival:

Upon arrival, the unacommpanied minor will exit the aircraft after the other passengers. A member of Air Tahiti Nui staff will accompany the minor through the arrivals process and collect baggage before the hand over to the person designated for pick-up. An ID card will be required to verify the identity of this person.

Please note: if your child has traveled on the same flight as you but in a different cabin, he or she disembarks last, accompanied by Air Tahiti Nui ground staff, and remains under the ground staff’s supervision until arrival in the terminal.

In case of delays / cancellations

In the event of a flight delay or cancellation, the unaccompanied minor receives priority care and attention from us. An Air tahiti Nui staff member remains present with the unaccompanied minor at all times.

If an overnight is required, a rather female Air Tahiti Nui staff will look after your child at all times.

Your Child’s Baggage

If you have reserved a seat for your infant, he/she receives the same baggage allowance as an adult. If your infant is traveling on your lap, his/her allowance will be a hold baggage item weighing up to 10 kg and a cabin a hand baggage item up to 3 kg.

Traveling with a stroller, car seat, basket

Because your comfort is our priority when you travel with an infant or with a child of less than 7 years, in addition to your applicable allowance, you can check-in in hold for free a stroller or a car seat or a basket per infant or child.

A car seat is accepted free of charge in the cabin when it must be installed on the seat which was purchased for your baby. If using a stroller while in the departure lounge you can take it to the gate and the crew will arrange for it to be stored in the hold. On arrival, the stroller will be delivered either to the gate or at the baggage carousel.

Special Meals

For passengers following a special diet

We offer a selection of 11 different special meals on flights operated by Air Tahiti Nui. Please inform our reservation service or your travel agent of your requirements at least 48 hours before your flight.
Our special meals are not appropriate in the case of food allergy. We cannot guarantee the absence of allergens. For more details on the composition of a meal, please contact our reservation service.

Meals for infants, babies or children

Baby meal: Meals for infants, babies or children
Toddler meal: Suitable for 1 to 2-year olds, mixed meal, more substantial than the baby meal
Child meal: Suitable for children between 2 and 7 years, less substantial than adult meals, easy to eat and digest

Meals adapted to medical problems

Low salt meal: No added salt, low in sodium
Meal suitable for diabetics: No added sugar, low fat, no breaded products, rich in fiber
Gluten-free meal: In case of intolerance to gluten protein
Low fat meal: Low in fat, low cholestorol, no egg yolk

Vegetarian meals, or fish-based meals

Vegan meal: Strictly vegetarian: no meat, no fish and no dairy or egg products
Fish-based meal: Fish, shellfish, no meat

Meals suitable for religious requirements

Kosher meal: Kosher meal prepared under the supervision of a Rabbi
Muslim meal: No pork, ham, bacon or alcohol

Transporting Pets and Animals

The rules for pet transport vary depending on your departure country and destination.

Air Tahiti Nui accepts animals transported in cabin accompanied with their owners only: from Los Angeles to Paris / Paris to Los Angeles / Papeete to Los Angeles /  Papeete to Paris.

Acceptance conditions of animals in cabin

  • Only cats and dogs (for other animal, please contact our Cargo Service)
  • Weight lower or equal to 5 kg max.
  • Transported in an adequat container wich can be accommodated under the seat (8 kg max all in all, by including the container) and the maximum dimensions of which are L40cm x l35cm x h20cm
  • 2 small-sized animals can be transported in the same container provided that there is enough place  to move freely and provided that the total weight is respected (8Kg).
  • Respect for the applicable sanitary and veterinary requirements in the countries of departure, transit and destination (certificates).

We strongly recommend that you provide us with information regarding weight, sanitary and veterinarian certificates at time of reservation and no later than 48 hours before departure. This will help us prepare for your pet transport in the best conditions. Be advised the number of pets accepted onboard is limited and subject to availability.

  • Los Angeles to Paris: USD150.00 one way.
  • Paris to Los Angeles: EUR150.00 one way.
  • Papeete to Los Angeles: XPF14,000 one way.
  • Papeete to Paris XPF24,000 one way

Important information

Your animal will have to stay in its container during all the flight and it until its arrival in the Terminal. Payment at the check in counter the applicable excess baggage charges based on the 3rd piece. For any dog and cat weighing more than 5 kg and for any category of pets, the transport in hold is compulsory. Please then contact Air Tahiti Nui Air Cargo service.
