SPECIAL ASSISTANCE

FITNESS TO FLY GUIDELINES

If you need medical clearance for fitness to fly, ask your attending physician to complete the MEDIF medical clearance form no more than seven days before your travel date and fill in Form A “Information for customers requiring special assistance”, which must be signed by you or your representative.

The MEDIF must be sent to the Call Center during the booking stage and must be submitted to the Alitalia medical department at least 72 hours before you travel, excluding Saturdays and public holidays. If medical clearance is required for the transportation of passengers on stretchers, the form—completed in full, stamped and signed by the passenger’s attending physician—must be provided at least five working days in advance, not counting Saturdays and public holidays.

For customers with a FREMEC (Frequent Traveler Medical Card), Alitalia accepts this card as “medical clearance for travel” within the limits of the stable condition indicated and within the validity period of the card. For medical clearance for other services/conditions not covered on the FREMEC (e.g. oxygen), clearance should be requested from the company by submitting the MEDIF form and Form A.

If you have a limb in plaster, it is not advisable to fly for 48 hours after the plaster cast has been fitted.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARANCE

Fit to fly medical clearance.
Proof of medical clearance for air travel must be provided by:

  • Those affected by diseases that could be spread to other passengers
  • Those affected by conditions that could worsen as a result of the flight
  • Those needing oxygen therapy or a stretcher on board
  • Those who, for physical or mental reasons, cannot take care of themselves
  • Those who require specialized medical care on board
  • Women in their last four weeks of pregnancy or who have a pregnancy with medical complications
  • Premature infants
  • Those who need to transport biological matter

Air travel is not generally recommended in the following specific clinical cases for passengers who:

  • Suffer from serious cardiac conditions such as: serious heart failure or coronary thrombosis, heart attack. Passengers with these conditions are generally not accepted for six weeks after a heart attack.
  • Have undergone treatment for the presence of gas, for example pneumothorax, or of air in the nervous system for ventriculography, pneumomediastinum, pneumoperitoneum etc.
  • Suffer from mental illness and/or nervous disorders that require more intense tranquillizers; are not accompanied and for whom special measures are required; have serious cases of earache with occlusion of the Eustachian tube;
  • Are suffering from contagious or infectious diseases
  • Have serious cases of contagious skin disease
  • Have recently suffered from poliomyelitis, unless the infection was over a month ago. Every phase of poliomyelitis.
  • Have large tumors in the rib cage, a serious hernia, intestinal occlusion, illnesses leading to high endocranial pressure, skull fracture, or who have a recent jaw fracture with permanent damage to the ligaments
  • Have recently undergone surgery from which the wound has not had sufficient time to heal
  • Women who are pregnant, and seven days before and after giving birth
  • Premature babies or newborn infants under 7 days old

PERSONAL WHEELCHAIRS AND OTHER MOBILITY AIDS

When booking your flight, please inform the airline of your need to travel with a powered or folding wheelchair or any other walking aid. You can check in two mobility aids at no extra cost (e.g. wheelchair and walker).
Alitalia will do its best to ensure that mobility aids are transported safely but some factors may prevent them from being transported. For full details, click here. In order to help us transport your mobility aid correctly, please download the Powered Mobility Aid information form and give it to the agent or attach it to your mobility aid.
If you wish, we can provide assistance between check-in and the gate or aircraft and between the gate and the arrivals lounge. Depending on the airport, you will be provided with an airport electric buggy or a wheelchair.
Because of the airport infrastructure, in many airports wheelchairs will be taken away at check-in, labeled and carried in the hold. Present yourself for the check-in not later than one hour before the published departure time for domestic flight (within Italy) and 1 hour and half for the international and intercontinental flights or at the point within the airport boundary designated not later than two hours before the published departure time. If your wheelchair has been stowed in the hold, we will make every effort to return it to you as close as possible to the aircraft door.
If this is not possible, we will make sure that there is a wheelchair waiting for you to take you to the baggage claim area.

For wheelchair passengers with travel itineraries involving a connection at Rome Fiumicino Airport who require assistance during the embarkation or disembarkation process (assistance type WCHC and WCHS), and in order to offer the best possible service and a comfortable and calm travel experience, Alitalia recommends a minimum connection time of 1 hour and 15 minutes (for connections between two domestic Italy flights, connections between international flights from/to Schengen countries and domestic Italy flights, or connections between two international flights from/to Schengen countries) or 1 hour and 30 minutes (for connections between two intercontinental flights, connections between intercontinental and domestic Italy flights, connections between domestic Italy flights and international flights from/to non-Schengen countries, or connections between intercontinental and international flights from/to Schengen or non-Schengen countries). You are kindly invited to contact the Alitalia call center for more information.

When departing from Rome Fiumicino, if you hold a parking card for people with disabilities, you can access the Z.T.L. (Limited Traffic Zone) in front of the entrance to the airport halls at no charge. Furthermore, by filling the online form on the A.D.R. website, you will be able to stop for longer than the customary 15 minutes allowed.

WHEELCHAIR ON BOARD

All Alitalia aircraft are equipped with wheelchairs on board to help passengers with mobility problems make their way from their seat to the aircraft restroom and back. Remember the crew can’t give any assistance within the restrooms. Aircraft of Alitalia partner airlines may not be equipped with wheelchairs on board; you are advised to check this at the time of booking.

TRAVELING WITH A COMPANION

A companion is someone who accompanies a disabled passenger. The following categories of passengers may not act as companions:

  • Children (under the age of 16)
  • Physically or mentally impaired persons
  • Persons who are too weak or frail

There are two categories of companions: safety assistants and personal assistants.

TRAVELING WITH A COMPANION 

safety assistant is a person of at least 16 years of age, physically and mentally able, willing to assist a person with reduced mobility (PRM) in the event of emergency or able to understand and apply safety instructions on behalf of the PRM.

A safety assistant is not a personal assistant who looks after the PRM’s personal needs. A safety assistant must be provided as a condition of travel when the PRM is:

  • not able to appropriately respond to flight safety instructions because of a mental disability;
  • not able to physically ensure his/her own evacuation in case of emergency due to a severe mobility impairment;
  • not able to communicate with flight attendants due to visual and hearing impairments;
  • traveling as a member of a group of people with disabilities, in order to ensure compliance with the safety requirement that there should be one able passenger for each passenger belonging to the Special Categories.

personal assistant is a person who is fully familiar with the physical condition of the passenger with a disability and who is capable of attending to the passenger’s in-flight needs, such as medical procedures, feeding and assistance using the restroom facilities (including during any delays or flight disruptions). The flight crew may help passengers to open meal packages and accompany them to the restroom door, but cannot assist them with eating or taking medication, nor assist them inside the toilet. If you require help with any of these functions, it is highly recommended that you travel with a personal care attendant.

LARGER PASSENGERS

If you are a passenger who falls into this category, we will try, if flight conditions permit, to leave the seat next to yours free.

We would like to remind you that the standard measurements of our seats in Economy Class may vary between 46.99 cm (18.5 inches) and 41.98 cm (16.53 inches)

If, for greater comfort, you wish to purchase an extra seat, you can do so at the booking stage by contacting the Call Center.

In such cases, purchasing an extra seat is only possible in Economy Class on all medium- and short-haul aircraft in the Alitalia fleet.

Finally, for safety reasons, you cannot sit by the emergency exits, in particular, exits over the wing.

SEATING

In order to make it easier for passengers with mobility problems to transfer between an aircraft seat and a wheelchair, all aisle seats on Alitalia aircraft are equipped with movable armrests. If you are traveling with a companion, he/she will have priority for the seat next to you. Depending on availability and a number of other factors, your companion may sit in the same row as you or in the row immediately in front or behind.
Passengers traveling with an assistance dog on domestic and intercontinental flights are offered bulkhead seats to accommodate the animal more comfortably. International flights are excluded as bulkhead seats are only available in Ottima class. For these flights, passengers will be offered an aisle seat.
If you have a disability that affects only one side of your body, you will be offered a seat on the side of the plane which allows your mobile side to be by the aisle, for safety reasons. If one of your legs in plaster or otherwise immobilized, but in such a way that you can still bend your knee, you will be offered, where possible, a seat by the bulkhead. Go to the check-in desk at least one hour before the other passengers.
If you are not able to bend your knee and you cannot remain seated with the seat in the upright position during takeoff, turbulence or landing, you must travel using a stretcher.
For safety reasons, the seats in the row by the emergency exit cannot be given to passengers with reduced mobility.

STRETCHERS

Passengers are carried on a stretcher if they are injured, are sick or cannot bend their lower limbs and are not able to remain seated with the seat in the upright position during takeoff, periods of turbulence or landing. Stretchers are available only on economy class on most of Alitalia aircrafts. Please check availability when booking for the flight/specific day of travel.
If you need to travel on a stretcher, you can request this service at the time of booking. Be sure to request the service well in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements. Don’t forget to obtain medical clearance for fitness to fly, the MEDIF form (to be completed by your physician) and ensure you have completed and signed Form A “Information for customers requiring special assistance”.

BLIND AND VISUALLY-IMPAIRED PASSENGERS

A Safety Briefing Card is available for blind and visually-impaired passengers on medium-haul Airbus aircraft.

SAFETY BRIEFING CARD

Safety Briefing Card is available for blind and visually-impaired passengers on medium-haul Airbus aircraft. The card contains passenger safety information in Braille with raised illustrations for blind passengers, in line with regulations on legibility and color contrasts for visually-impaired passengers. The features of the card are as follows:

  • Text with letters and colors for visually-impaired passengers (and their assistants);
  • Text written in Braille;
  • 3D illustrations of a number of elements such as the location of emergency exits, the layout of the cabin, instructions on how to fasten and unfasten seat belts, emergency positions and the use of safety jackets and oxygen masks.

GUIDE DOGS OR ASSISTANCE DOGS FOR DISABLED PASSENGERS

When booking, please let us know if you need to travel with a guide dog or assistance dog. We recommend that you use a dog harness and bring a muzzle with you to use during the cruising phase, if necessary, at the request of the captain, for safety reasons.
Recognized guide dogs or assistance dogs are carried free of charge and there are no weight limits. Please also note also that some countries have special requirements regarding the admittance of animals. We recommend that you read the regulations before you travel. To enter the United Kingdom with a recognized guide dog, please also consult these guidelines.

RECOGNIZED ASSISTANCE DOGS

European Regulation 1107/2006 requires airlines to accept recognized assistance dogs free of charge, either in the cabin or in the hold The definition of recognized assistance dogs is specified in ECAC Doc 30, Part I, Section 5: Facilitation of the transport of persons with reduced mobility, June 2012 edition:

“The term recognized assistance dogs refers to guide dogs and other assistance dogs trained to assist persons with a wide range of disabilities with everyday tasks. Guide dogs, primarily used to provide mobility assistance to blind or partially sighted people, are those trained by an organization that is affiliated with or recognized by the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF). Assistance dogs are trained by organizations that meet the full Assistance Dogs International (ADI) membership criteria.

DIABETICS

If you have diabetes, you do not need clearance to fly, provided that you have not been hospitalized in the 30 days before the flight. In this case only, the Medical Information Form (MEDIF) must be completed by your doctor and sent together with Form A “Information for customers requiring special assistance” signed by you. The MEDIF form must be sent to the Call Center at the booking stage.
You can also request a special meal for flights over three hours; this must also be done when booking.
Carry insulin with the devices needed for administration in your hand luggage. This way, it will be readily accessible during the flight and will prevent any risks associated with alterations to the substance due to the sudden temperature changes that may occur in the hold. You can carry enough insulin for your entire trip (outbound flight, stay and return flight).
To pass through the security controls in the airport, just show the original certificate from your treating physician, dated within the last 30 days.

OTHER SERVICES FOR HEALTHY TRAVEL

Find out about the other special assistance services:

  • Oxygen therapy for passengers with cardiac, pulmonary or respiratory problems, to prevent any disturbances caused by the cabin pressure when the aircraft is at high altitude. If you need oxygen equipment on board you must request it in advance. We can only provide oxygen to one passenger per flight so availability may be restricted. The Medical Information Form (MEDIF) needs to be completed by your doctor and sent together with Form A “Information for customers requiring special assistance” signed by you. Alitalia standard continuous flow is 4/ltm. Contact Alitalia to check whether it is available on the aircraft you are planning to fly on. We cannot provide oxygen on the ground at any airport.
  • Transportation of liquid medicine and syringes on board , for personal use, in sufficient quantity for the entire trip (flights to and from the destination and the duration of the stay). To pass the security checks at the airport, you must have:
  • medical certificate dated within 30 days of the flight that attests to the need, quantity and method of administration of the drug

Please notify the cabin crew if you need to use needles during the flight. You will be given a special container in which to dispose of them. Do not hook intravenous devices to the overhead compartments: they could interfere with the emergency oxygen mask system.

MEDICAL DEVICES

Portable medical devices include all small electrical/electronic equipment, powered by battery and used for medical diagnosis, treatment and monitoring passengers’ health. Please inform Alitalia if you need to carry a device of this type with you. For safety reasons, these devices require prior authorization, from time to time, by the Alitalia Medicine and Avionics Departments.

Passengers who use portable oxygen concentrators (POC) approved by the FAA or other medical equipment may submit, instead of the MEDIF, a certificate issued by their own attending physician, which indicates the oxygen flow necessary and that the patient is capable of seeing/hearing the device’s safety signal and taking action. If this is not the case, they must be accompanied by another person.
After receiving approval from Alitalia for the portable medical devices or small electrical/electronic equipment, the following regulations must be complied with:

  • The battery must be kept in hand baggage.
  • The battery must be individually packaged and protected from short circuits.
  • A number of batteries sufficient for the entire flight duration must be carried, taking possible delays into account (around 150% of the duration of the flight).

For lithium batteries:

  • In the case of alkaline or lithium batteries, the lithium content must be more than 2 g but less than 8 g and the voltage must be less than 100 Wh per battery.
  • For lithium ion batteries, the watt-hour rating must be more than 100 Wh, but less than 160 Wh.
  • The batteries used must be of a type that meets the requirements of the United Nations Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3.

HEALTH DOCUMENTATION

Before embarking on your trip, have your attending physician complete, sign and stamp the Medical Information Form (MEDIF) not more than seven days prior to your departure date.
You will need a MEDIF if:

  • You are in the last four weeks of your pregnancy
  • You have medical complications related to your pregnancy
  • You are having twins

From the start of your ninth month of pregnancy, request a certificate from your doctor that includes your due date.

ADVICE

It is inadvisable to travel seven days prior to and seven days after giving birth and if there is a risk of a premature birth or other complications. If you are traveling with a companion (recommended after the 28th week), request that he/she be seated next to you to assist you throughout your trip.
In flight, do not over-tighten the seat belt and keep it fastened higher than usual.
Promote blood circulation: wear support stockings and massage your legs from time to time. If possible, choose an aisle seat so that you are free to move around. During the flight, drink plenty of water and avoid carbonated beverages.

DOCUMENTS FOR MINORS

Children traveling?

Make sure you have all the necessary documents required by Italian law and by the law of the country the child is traveling to.

DOMESTIC TRAVEL

When traveling in Italy, minors must also have their own identity document:

  • If you have an Italian document, just show one of the identity documents specifically mentioned in DPR (Italian Presidential Decree) 445/2000 as well as all the documents needed for international travel
  • If you have a document for another nationality, check on the website of the Italian Embassy or the Italian Consulate which documents are needed.

Children under the age of 14 may, as long as they are in possession of their own identification document, travel with persons who are neither their parents nor legal guardians, while children between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age may travel without an accompanying adult.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

For international travel:

  • Children with an Italian document must have one of the following documents:
    • Identity Card valid for international travel , valid for travel within the EU or to a country with a bilateral agreement with Italy. Choose your destination to find out if a bilateral agreement is in place
    • Individual passport : being included on the passport of a parent or legal guardian is no longer valid for travel
    • Travel Permit, which can be used only for certain destinations and is a valid certificate or birth certificate extract with a photograph, issued by the Municipality of birth and validated by the local Questura

    If the minor is less than 14 years old, in addition to a personal document (an ID card, passport or travel permit), he/she must be accompanied by an adult and certain other legal requirements must be met depending on who the minor is traveling with:

    • Minor accompanied by parent/legal guardian – the name of the parent or legal guardian traveling with the minor must be on the travel document and a birth certificate or certificate of family status must also be carried so that the authorities can ascertain the identity of the child’s parents
    • Minor accompanied by an adult without any legal relationship to the minor – in addition to the minor’s own identity document, a Dichiarazione di Accompagno (Declaration of Temporary Guardianship for Travel Abroad) signed by a parent or legal guardian and authenticated by the Questura must be provided. It must bear the name of the person, the entity or the transportation company to which the minor is entrusted*

    If the minor is traveling as part of a school trip or study group, the name of the person in charge of the group or the name of the institute/entity that organized the trip must be mentioned on the Dichiarazione di Accompagno (Declaration of Temporary Guardianship for Travel Abroad).

  • Minors with a document proving another nationality (not Italian) must check on the website of the embassy or consulate in the destination country.

In addition to special fares, we offer special services for our young passengers.

FROM 0 TO 12 YEARS

If this is the first time your child has ever flown in an airplane, let us help you celebrate this event with a special “First Flight” certificate commemorating his/her first experience as an airplane passenger. Print the certificate, fill it out and give it to a Flight Attendant on board. The captain will be happy to sign it and make it “official”.

SERVICES AND DISCOUNTS

In addition to special fares, our young passengers will get lots of other special attention:

  • Sala Young, at Rome Fiumicino airport (Terminal 1, open daily from 05:30am – 12:00am) with TV and cartoons
  • Bassinets1, on all intercontinental flights
  • Special kids meals, to be requested when booking the ticket:
    • Up to 2 years – baby food including lean meat, vegetables, fruit and dessert
    • From 2 to 12 years old – complete meals including hamburgers, packaged sweets and sandwiches

STROLLERS

Strollers for young travelers: remember to attach a luggage label to the stroller with your full name, address and telephone number. Strollers are sent free of charge to all destinations and for all travel classes when traveling with a child up to 11 years of age.
For Alitalia group flights arriving at and in transit through Italian airportsserved by the Company, you can request at check-in that the stroller be delivered for immediate use upon disembarking or at the gate (accessories such as covers, bags etc. must be removed).

You can book a seat for young travelers that includes the same weight, size and quantity of baggage allowed for an adult ticket, plus the stroller (the same conditions apply to children from 2 to 11 years of age).

Children (up to 13 years of age on domestic flights and up to 14 years on international flights) must travel with an adult who must be present in the same travel class (if the parent is of minority age, the child can travel accompanied by the parent provided that he/she has been given parental authority).

Children under 2 years of age can fly with an Infant fare if they travel in the lap of an accompanying adult3 or, if the child uses an approved car safety seat, a separate seat can be reserved for them by purchasing a Child fare ticket.

If the child is traveling in an accompanying adult’s lap, the adult is entitled to bring an additional bag of up to 10 kg. If the child occupies a seat, the baggage allowance will be the normal allowance for children from 2 to 11 years of age.
In any event, the presence of the child must be indicated when booking the ticket of the accompanying adult.

1. Some long-haul flights offer on-board bassinets, for children less than 76 cm long and weighing no more than 11 kg, which can be requested when booking. For operational reasons, this service might not be guaranteed on board, even if booked. In this case, the child must travel in the adult’s lap.
2. Excludes Cagliari, Genoa and Trieste airports
3. Alitalia would like to inform you that children up to 2 years of age can also travel in an adult’s lap in long-haul Business Class. However, in line with IATA recommendations (*) and to guarantee a safer and more comfortable trip, Alitalia suggests the use of an approved child safety seat (CRS — Child Restraint System) owned by the passenger.

(*) The IATA states that the safest way of transporting an infant or child on board an aircraft is to use a child restraint system (CRS).
The IATA therefore recommends the use of an approved restraint system (CRS) for travel and encourages airlines to promote their use on board.

SEATS FOR YOUNG TRAVELERS (FROM 0 TO 2 YEARS OLD)

If you wish to book a seat for your child, you can bring your child safety seat (CRS — Child Restraint System) on board, as long as:

  • It fits in between the arm rests of the airplane seat (42 cm/16.5 in)
  • You can install it on board yourself, in compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions (forward or backward facing)
  • It can be kept in place with the seat belt (child safety seats that are made up of two parts, need three attachment points or are kept in place with a metal bar may not be used)
  • It is not defective and bears a visible EU seal of approval or a seal of approval from another recognized official authority

You can book a seat for your child only on some flights and up to 48 hours before the flight departure time by contacting Special Assistance.

Approved seals of approval include:

  • UN ECE Standard R44-03 and 44-04
  • United States labeling US FMVSS no. 213*
  • Canadian labeling CMVSS 213/213.1
  • German labeling TUV/958-01/2001
  • Seats approved for use in cars and tested in accordance with standards equivalent to those listed above by the Canadian transport authorities, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Joint Civil Aviation Authority (JAA)

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS

For passengers under 14 years of age (on domestic flights) and under 15 years of age (on international flights) traveling alone or accompanied by another minor or by an adult in a different seating class, we provide a special “Unaccompanied Minor” service

Underage passengers traveling alone who are over the age for using the mandatory Unaccompanied Minor service can request the new “Voluntary Unaccompanied Minor” service

Furthermore, only at Fiumicino airport, the young travellers will be welcomed in the Alia Lounge, a colorful area, with toys available to the kids.

Alia Lounge is located at Terminal 1, departures side. The area is 180 sqm, where they will find cuddles, fun and dedicated staff who will take them on board for a new adventure.

 

“UNACCOMPANIED MINOR” SERVICE

For passengers under 14 years of age for domestic destinations and under 15 years of age for international destinations traveling without an accompanying adult or with an accompanying adult in a different travel class (Business/Premium Economy/Economy), there is an “Unaccompanied minor” service.

To book a flight, have a ticket issued and book the service at the same time, call Special Assistance or use a travel agent, indicating the address and telephone number of the person accompanying the minor to the departure airport and the person who will pick him/her up at the arrival airport. Should there be connecting flights, the minor cannot be booked onto the last flight of the day to his/her destination from a stopover airport, unless that flight is the only flight departing that day. The person accompanying the minor to the airport must remain at the airport until the flight boarded by the unaccompanied minor is airborne.

Documents
Upon check-in, show:

  • A photocopy of the identity document of the person accompanying the minor to the airport
  • A valid travel document for the minor
  • The Unaccompanied minor “AFFIDAVIT” form completed in full and, in the case of minors under 14 years of age on international flights
  • For minors with a document proving their Italian nationality, for traveling abroad a Dichiarazione di Accompagno (Declaration of Temporary Guardianship for Travel Abroad) is needed. This should be signed by the parents or by the legal guardian and authenticated by the Questura and include the name of the airline to which the minor is entrusted. The form is only available in Italian.
  • For minors with a document proving another nationality (not Italian), it is necessary to check on the website of the embassy or consulate in the destination country.

“VOLUNTARY UNACCOMPANIED MINOR” SERVICE

Underage passengers traveling alone who are over the age for using the mandatory Unaccompanied Minor service can request the new “Voluntary Unaccompanied Minor” service. This service offers accompaniment during travel for children between the ages of:

  • 14 – 17 for domestic air travel
  • 15 – 17 for all other air travel

Book the “Voluntary Unaccompanied Minor” service by calling Special Assistance. The service charges and airport and in-flight assistance are the same as those applied to mandatory Unaccompanied Minors. The service can be purchased for all flights operated by the Alitalia Group and the fee must be paid after the reservation for the entire itinerary has been confirmed. The service will also be guaranteed for connecting flights, even if, should a connection have been missed, Alitalia has to board the minor on a flight different from the one originally booked. The “Voluntary Unaccompanied Minor” service is not refundable.

ANIMALS

Not every aircraft has animal transport facilities and the maximum size of the pet carriers they can take on board varies. Please find out if your pet can travel with you by calling our Special Assistance service.

DOGS, CATS AND FERRETS

In order to travel within the EU, cats and dogs must have the following:

  • A passport issued by a veterinarian listing the vaccinations your pet has received and attesting to its health
  • Legible tattoo or microchip

Remember:

  • Pets that are younger than three months, and therefore have not yet had a rabies vaccine, cannot travel within Europe
  • You should check any rules or restrictions for your destination country with its embassy or consulate, or by consulting the IATA Travel Information Manual
  • No pets can travel to the United Kingdom or Ireland
  • that to carry dogs or cats in Brazil the  International Veterinary Health Certificate (CZI) is required
  • Transportation for recognized guide dogs or assistance dogs accompanying disabled passengers is free of charge (recognized assistance dogs can travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland)

There may be other restrictions on bringing in certain animal species depending on the destination country.

Certain conditions must be met for the pet to travel with you in the cabin:

  • For the entire journey, the pet must remain in a carrier no larger than:
    • 24 cm high
    • 40 cm long
    • 20 cm wide
  • The pet must be comfortable and able to turn around and lie down in the carrier. The carrier must be well ventilated, waterproof and sturdy, preferably semi-rigid or soft as long as it meets the previous conditions. If the top of the carrier is soft or semi-rigid, it can be slightly (2–4 cm) higher than indicated.
  • The carrier may hold up to five animals of the same species as long as the total weight does not exceed 10 kg (including carrier and food)

These conditions must be met for the pet to travel in the hold:

  • The pet must travel in a rigid carrier
  • The body of the carrier must be made from fiberglass or hard plastic only
  • If the carrier has wheels, these must be removed. If they are retractable, they must be locked with adhesive tape
  • CAGES for transporting DOGS must:
    • have a metal door with a locking system that locks the closure points at the top, middle and bottom of the door
    • The side air inlets of CAGES for transporting DOGS must be made of metal, not plastic
  • The dimensions of the CAGE may vary based on the type of aircraft being used for the journey. For further information, please contact our Call Center

Recommendations for the transportation of brachycephalic races in the hold

Brachycephalic races or snub nose, are particularly susceptible to stress and temperature. To ensure the wellness and safety of your pet, we suggest you to evaluate carefully the overall health of your pet and consequently to assess the risks associated with this type of transport.

BIRDS

In order to prevent the spread of avian (bird) flu, the EU and the Ministry of Health have placed a total ban on the importation of birds from Asia, Turkey, Russia, South Africa, Romania and the Balkan Peninsula.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES

In order for your pet to be able to travel with you, you must pay an additional ticket charge, which will vary depending on the pet’s weight, the departure and arrival airports, and whether it will travel in the cabin or in the cargo hold.
