Passengers with reduced mobility

Acceptance on board of persons with disabilities depends on the following factors:

  • Possibility of the handling agent to provide such type of services (the necessary equipment, properly trained personnel)
  • Limitations. (i.e. maximum PRMs on the board of the aircraft, depending on its type, acceptance on the board of the aircraft of certain categories of PRM)

Passengers with reduced mobility

To ensure a comfortable flight of the persons with disabilities should be taken into account a number of factors such as the health of the person, the requested equipment, involved air carriers, maximum limits per types of aircraft. In this respect, any special service for people with disabilities must be requested 72 hours before the flight to allow the air carrier to arrange and finish the arrangements. Usually, these requests are declared to the agent at the time of booking the ticket when introducing the necessary information in the passenger’s reservation.

For people who suffer from certain diseases and are considered medical cases, Air Moldova shall request the medical information about the health condition of the passenger.

A special form MEDIF is necessary to be completed by the passenger’s doctor and sent to the company.

Please let us know the extent to which your mobility is reduced.

There are three internationally recognized wheelchair categories to help you classify your degree of disability:

  • WCHR – Wheelchair Ramp: The passenger requests the wheelchair only to cover longer distances; is able to climb stairs independently.
  • WCHS – Wheelchair Steps: The passenger is not able to climb the stairs but can cover short distances on foot.
  • WCHC – Wheelchair Cabin seat: The passenger requests the wheelchair all the time, is not able to move around the cabin without being helped by another person – it is needed the wheelchair all the time.

If you are traveling with your own wheelchair, please notify us of its size and weight and any special features (e.g. folding/non-folding, sport/electric wheelchair, etc.).

The battery-driven wheelchairs are accepted for transportation only if respected special conditions. Non spill-able batteries (gel and dry batteries) can remain in the wheelchair, must be secured and disconnected and the poles must be isolated before boarding the aircraft. It is not allowed transportation of wheelchairs with wet or lithium batteries.

Transportation the equipment (1) for persons with reduced mobility (wheelchair, crutches, other mobility aids) is free of charge on Air Moldova flights. These are transported only in the hold.

Passengers travelling accompanied by guide animals

Passengers travelling accompanied by guide dogs are accepted on the board free of charge. Passengers travelling accompanied by guide dogs shall notify us thereon upon booking.

Conditions to accept guide dogs on board:

  • Their weight and seize is not restricted;
  • The passenger shall hold a certificate that proves the status “guide animal”
  • They are not allowed to move around the aircraft;
  • They do not occupy a seat;
  • They are not carried in cages;
  • They shall be muzzled and have a lead;

Passengers with impaired sensory perception

Please notify us of your disability at time of booking so we can pass on the relevant information, especially to our cabin crew on the board of the aircraft. Passengers with impaired sensory perception do not need a doctor’s certificate Deaf and blind passengers will need to be accompanied during the flight.

Persons with reduced mobility or impaired sensory perception may choose their seat on the board of the aircraft but due to safety concerns their choice might be restricted to defined rows (e.g. emergency exits).

Unaccompanied Minors

UMNR procedure is a special service provided by Air Moldova which consists in supervision, by the airline’s staff during the journey, of the children aged over 5 years old traveling alone.

Some countries’ immigration authorities require additional documentation (like legal declaration or permits) for children traveling alone. So, when planning a trip of a minor alone, please make sure to inquire about the legal requirements of the residence country of the minor, country of departure /arrival /transit at the respective country’s immigration authorities or embassies in order to ensure the minor will have all the correct documentation for the journey.

Unaccompanied Minors

Minors citizens of RM traveling alone:
According to Republic of Moldova requirements (Law of Republic of Moldova on exit and entry into RM no.269-XIII from 09.11.1994) minors, citizens of RM, have the right to exit and enter the Republic of Moldova only accompanied by a parent, legal representatives (persons designated by law to exercise the parental rights) or by an attendant over 18 years old, appointed by a written declaration legally notarized. The declaration will mention the purpose of travel, length of the stay and destination country.

A minor citizen of RM traveling alone on Air Moldova flights, will need a declaration from a parent / a legal representative legally notarized, which will appoint Air Moldova flight attendants as accompanying persons on the respective flights. All information on the names of flight attendants operating the flight which the minor shall benefit of, can be requested at Air Moldova KIV airport office: email: representation@airmoldova.md ; Tel/Fax: +373 22 52 59 95. We suggest making up the declaration of appointment of Air Moldova flight attendants as accompanying persons of the minor as close as possible to the date of the departure or not early than 1 month before the departure date of the flight, due to possible changes in the list.

Minors, citizens of other countries than RM citizens, traveling alone:
We recommend to consult the exit/entry requirements of the residence country of the minor, of the country of departure and arrival, and ensure you have all necessary documentation prepared for the minor traveling alone.

The UMNR service is applicable:

  • to all children from 5 up to 12 years old traveling alone,
  • to all minors citizens of RM from 12 up to 18 years old traveling alone when departing from Republic of Moldova
  • to minors from 12 up to 18 years old traveling alone – on parents’ request or in case of doubt of child’s ability to travel alone

The UMNR service is subject to additional payment: 30 eur per each Air Moldova flight. The service will be provided if it is requested at time of booking and confirmation from Air Moldova is received.

On departure, the parent or designated accompanying adult of the minor to the airport has to sign the Unaccompanied Minor form (Handling Advice) at check-in and stay at the airport until departure of the flight. On arrival, the minor will be released only to the adult person specified in the Unaccompanied Minor form (Handling Advice) completed at the airport of the departure once the ID of the person is checked.

Reservation of a ticket for an unaccompanied minor is not possible online since the carriage of unaccompanied minors requires prior arrangement with us.

Unaccompanied minor service for minors will not be confirmed on code share flights where Air Moldova is not in fact the operating carrier.

Expectant mothers

Expectant mothers can be accepted on board with presentation of the following documents:

  • After the 28th week of pregnancy (until the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy) – is mandatory to present the medical certificate stamped and signed by the doctor, which states clearly fitness for travel. This certificate, issued not earlier than 72 hours before flight, shall be presented at the check-in.
  • Starting with the end of the 32nd week till the end of the 35th week of pregnancy and in cases of complicated pregnancy – is mandatory to present the medical certificate stamped and signed by the doctor, which states clearly fitness for travel. Shall be requested the MEDIF form filled by the doctor and confirmed by the air company’s doctor.

Expectant mothers

Can be accepted on board expectant mothers only before the end of the 35th week of pregnancy in cases of uncomplicated pregnancy and by complying with the above rules and expectant mothers only before the 32nd week of pregnancy in cases of multiple (twins) uncomplicated pregnancies by complying with the above rules.

Pet Transportation

Air Moldova accepts for transportation only dogs and cats and only with prior agreement of the air company. Pets are carried in special cages only in the aircraft cabin.

Air Moldova doesn’t accept for transportation big animals in the aircraft cabin.

Pet Transportation

Pets are not accepted for transportation on Air Moldova flights to/ from Great Britain, Ireland and Portugal, due to restrictive local legislation and conditions.

The passenger shall declare to the ticket sales agent his/her intention to transport pets when buying the ticket. The animal weight and weight of the cage and of their meal are not included in the standard free of charge baggage transportation. It is applied a fee of 40 euro for transportation of the pets. Allowed weight of the cage shall not exceed 8 kg, and the total size shall be of 115 cm (25 x 40 x 50).

Acceptance for transportation of pets is done only with the condition that the passenger assumes full responsibility for them signing a special declaration at departure. The air company shall not be liable for injury, loss, or death of the transported pet, as well as non-acceptance to transport to the destination point or through the transit point to the destination point.

If the passenger intends to transport the above mentioned pets:

1. He/she shall provide the following documents and comply with the following condition:

  • Pet passport
  • Health certificate
  • Vaccination certificate
  • Export / import / transit permit
  • Animal shall have an electronic identification system (transponder) or a visible tattoo.

Passengers, traveling with their pets to EU countries from a non-UE country, shall fulfill the EU requirements for pets transportation in accordance with Regulation EC Nr.998/2003, which includes:

  • Identification: the animal shall be identified by an electronic identification system (transponder) and it shall be accompanied by a veterinary certificate issued by an official veterinarian authorized by the competent authority of the country (or by a EU type passport in the case of a re-entry of the pet in EU) which will certify the anti-rabies vaccination or revaccination and compliance with this regulation.
  • Rabies Vaccination: the pet animal must have undergone anti-rabies vaccination and it must have undergone a blood test to determine the antibody titration confirming the efficiency of anti-rabies vaccination. This test can be carried out at least 30 days after vaccination and 3 months before the journey, in one of the authorized EU laboratory.     Note: The three months period shall not apply to the re-entry of a pet animal in EU, whose passport certifies that vaccination and titration was carried, before the animal left the territory of EU.
  • Transport of pets smaller than 7 months old that have not undergone the anti-rabies vaccination and blood test shall be refused.

2. Shall take into account the following conditions:

The animal:

  • shall be clean, healthy, harmless;
  • shall not be pregnant;
  • shall not annoy passengers;
  • shall be booked at least with 24 hours before the flight departure with a special code PETC, its weight and size;
  • shall have a suitable cage, i.e. the animal can stay in a natural position, turn around and lie down (except guide dogs);
  • shall be transported in the cabin only and never in the hold.

The cage:

  • shall not be placed on the seat;
  • the maximum weight of the pet, including the cage shall not be more than 8 kg;
  • the maximum sum of dimensions shall not be more than 115 cm (25 x 40 x 50);
  • shall be procured by the passenger;
  • shall be well ventilated, securely fastened and made of a strong material that is leak-proof and cannot be easily destroyed by the animal inside it. Cardboard cat boxes are NOT suitable for air transport.
  • it is important for the passenger to purchase the right sized cage for the animal, according to the following indications:

Guide animals are: service animals that accompany a passenger with reduced mobility, especially persons with hearing impairment. Passengers travelling accompanied by guide dogs shall notify us thereon upon booking. Passengers travelling accompanied by guide dogs are accepted on the board free of charge taking into account the following conditions:

  • Their weight and seize can be restricted depending on the type of the aircraft;
  • The passenger shall hold a certificate that proves the status “guide animal”;
  • They are not allowed to move around the aircraft;
  • They do not occupy a seat;
  • They are not carried in cages;
  • They shall be muzzled and have a lead;

Additional seat for greater comfort

Passengers may request an additional seat for greater comfort (EXST). This service requires the confirmation from the carrier. A separate passenger ticket must be issued. Passenger pays 100% of the applied fare and all carrier’s fees (YQ/YR).

Passengers with extra seats EXST cannot be seated in an emergency exit row.
